PLAY_ZONE is many things: an art installation, an instrument and a play thing.

The inspiration for PLAY_ZONE comes from a desire to marry music and glass design by creating a playful communication between sounds and colours.

The PLAY_ZONE promotes playfulness, diversity and aesthetics rooted in child-like imagination. In order to validate the design of PLAY_ZONE, the user’s participation is required. I designed a glass instrument, which encourages touch through its tactile design. The touch component initiates the interaction between the sound and the light inside the glass component. The glass instrument is custom tuned to a simple scale and each pitch of the instrument is assigned a colour/ hue.

I am naturally drawn to diversity and interested in creating a platform of non-verbal communication. I believe that play connects us all on universal level.

PLAY_ZONE engages in bridging the gap between different mental and physical abilities by creating a sensory journey that encourages the participants to explore a combination of textures, colours and sounds through the medium of glass.

I challenge to transform the perception of glass as a fragile and dangerous material by inviting the audience to touch and experience it intimately. PLAYZONE is a collaborative project between designers and musicians.

Kind thanks to PLAY_ZONE team of collaborators: Mark Kobine, Chris Cheek, Lesley Crawford and Fiona Sharp. This would not be possible without you.
