PLAYZONE EDINBURGH was an art exhibition held alongside the Edinburgh Art Fair in both 2018 and 2019. As a collective of artists with a shared vision, we transformed an empty space into an interactive experience that was playful both in form and intention.
At the heart of PLAYZONE EDINBURGH was the belief that play is a powerful tool for fostering creativity. Children learn through play, and adults explore through art. Play brings an element of surprise, novelty, and excitement, offering a way to arrange unrelated ideas into new combinations and unlocking new possibilities.
Our goal at PLAYZONE EDINBURGH was to spark curiosity about the objects, the space they occupied, and the narratives—real or imagined—they inspired. It was an opportunity to create an immersive environment for a diverse audience, many of whom might otherwise be excluded from traditional gallery settings, such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with complex needs or varying physical and mental abilities.
The exhibition encouraged multi-sensory engagement and direct interaction with objects, allowing those who experience the world through different senses to fully participate and connect with the artwork.
